Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world as 'rival' beats him to it

Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world, even though his net worth is still an eye-watering amount.

The SpaceX Founder has been knocked off the top spot and is no longer number one in terms of the wealthiest people on the planet. Elon Musk has now lost bragging rights to being the richest person in the world, he’s just among the super rich instead – we don’t think that’s a bad consequence.

Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world

The star, who has 11 children, bank balance has taken a bit of a tumble after a rocky start to the year for the Twitter founder, who later rebranded the social media platform to X.

It comes after a judge in Delaware ruled the Tesla founder’s pay check from the vehicle company was an ‘unfathomable sum’, being unfair to shareholders. At the time he was taking home $55 billion.

The court ordered him to give the money back, and Tesla shares suffering a rocky period on the stock market as shares dived in the weeks following the case. It may be some part of the reason Elon Musk’s no longer the richest person in the world.

The 52-year-old instead, is sitting alongside other billionaires, like Mark Zuckerberg or Microsoft founder Bill Gates. But he’s not number one.

Elon Musk’s net worth, which stands at around $198 billion, has plummeted in comparison to the reports in 2022, which was $304.2 billion.

Who’s the world’s richest person now?

Elon Musk’s ‘rival’ Jeff Bezos has stormed in to take his place.

Musk was in the top spot for three years after passing the Amazon founder previously. But now Bezos, who recently got engaged, is now back on the throne as the richest person in the world. The celebrity‘s net worth is a staggering $200 billion, so he only just managed to scrape the new crown.

Bezos was crowned the wealthiest person on the planet on Bloomberg Billionaires Index for the first time since 2021.

He’s beat Facebook master Zuckerberg, Gates, Steve Ballmer, Bernard Arnault and the famous Wolf of Wall Street Warren Buffet.

Bezos was first named the richest person back in 2017, and despite selling a chunk of his shares in Amazon, he’s managed to claw himself back up.

The 60-year-old stepped back as CEO to become the company’s executive chairman, and sold $25 million shares last month.

He vowed to sell $50 million by 2025 through Morgan Stanley, but is still currently the shopping giant’s highest shareholder currently.

Both billionaires love space

Not only were they paired against each other over their bank balances, but both billionaires love space it seems.

Elon Musk has been trying to push his company, SpaceX, into the pages of history with his space engineering firm, which recently delivered a payload for NASA on the moon as part of a private contract.

Whereas Bezos launched his rocket company, Blue Origin, which allowed people to reach the edge of the atmosphere if they forked out a huge amount for tickets.

Now the company is planning moon landing missions, hoping to touch boots down on the surface next year.
